About Logging Specialties LLC

The World's Largest Supplier of Premium Applewood to the BBQ Industry

From orchard to grill: premium New York applewood

For over two decades, Logging Specialties LLC has supplied premium quality applewood to the BBQ industry's most demanding customers, including restaurants, manufacturers, and major retailers across North America. We're based in North Rose, New York, in the heart of Wayne County's 30,000+ acre apple region along the southern shore of Lake Ontario. Our reputation rests on one simple principle: quality you can taste.

Our Story

Gabe Jackson, President and Owner, recognized an opportunity where others saw waste. When orchards remove aging, non-productive trees to make room for new plantings, most see a disposal challenge. Gabe saw the finest smoking wood in the world.

When Americans discovered home BBQ and meat smoking during the COVID era, our applewood sales tripled in a short period. That demand reshaped our company. We discontinued forest logging entirely and became orchard clearing specialists for Wayne County's apple growers, focused 100% on business-to-business partnerships.

Today, we are the world's largest supplier of applewood to the BBQ industry, trusted by major white-label BBQ product manufacturers. Our New York State applewood can be found in nearly every Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, Ace Hardware, Tractor Supply, and Runnings location across the country, sold under the trusted brands we supply.

The Lake Ontario Advantage

Wayne County grows more apples than any other county east of the Rocky Mountains, and our region has cultivated apples for over 300 years. That heritage gives our wood qualities you won't find anywhere else:

  • Heritage tree stock: Mature, standard-size trees with 6 to 24 inch trunk diameters, while many regions have shifted to wire-supported dwarf varieties

  • Clean wood: Free-standing trees mean no embedded wire or metal fragments in your equipment

  • Superior density: Harsh Lake Ontario winters build dense grain with concentrated flavor compounds for longer burn times and more consistent smoke

Our Sustainable Harvest

We work with nature's calendar. Our sustainable harvest runs October through March, after the apple crop is picked and growers turn to orchard renewal. Trees are cut at ground level, branches are chipped on-site, and stumps are removed or ground smooth so new saplings can take their place. Every part of the tree serves a purpose, and every block we clear makes room for the next generation of orchard.
